It captures notes, voice, PDFs, web pages and screen activity, links everything into an on-device knowledge graph, and exposes that graph to AI agents such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor over the Model Context Protocol. It is not a note-taking app with AI bolted on — the knowledge graph is the product, and it lives on the local disk.
The knowledge graph is a local SQLite database on the same disk, encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a key held in the operating system keychain. The current Windows beta is offline-only: there is no cloud sync and no upload, so nothing you capture leaves your device unless you explicitly export it. Credit card numbers, SSNs, passwords and API keys are detected and redacted on-device before they are stored.
Yes — offline is the only mode in the current Windows beta (v0.1.0-beta.1). Capture, search, the knowledge graph, spaced repetition and local AI through Ollama all work with the network disconnected. Signing in is the single cloud step, and it only issues a beta code. Cloud sync is planned as an opt-in, granular, end-to-end-encrypted feature, and turning it off will always leave a fully working offline app.
Notion answers from the internet and Obsidian's graph is only as good as the links you write by hand. Serpaix grounds every answer in captured material and infers graph edges automatically through entity extraction, semantic similarity and temporal proximity. The practical difference is provenance: an answer can cite the note, file or recording it came from, and the whole thing runs on local disk instead of a rented workspace.
Serpaix runs a local Model Context Protocol server exposing 22 tools over stdio JSON-RPC, verifiable in the open-source repository. Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP-compatible client can search the notes, create notes, pull timelines, fetch flashcards and ask grounded questions mid-conversation. Access is controlled by scoped tokens with per-note allowlists and expiry times, so an agent sees only what you authorise.
The Long-Term Memory daemon is a background Rust process that can record screen, clipboard and browser activity on the local machine. Redaction runs before storage, not before upload: password managers such as 1Password, Bitwarden and Keychain are excluded, and PII is stripped on-device. In the beta the daemon writes only to the local encrypted database, so a capture can never silently become a network request.
Yes. Because the beta runs offline, local models through Ollama are the default path and the one that works with the network disconnected — answers are generated on local hardware. Bring-your-own-key access for OpenAI, Anthropic and Google Gemini is implemented in the codebase and returns when cloud features ship. You are never required to use a Serpaix-hosted model.
Not yet, and the free Windows beta is not an enterprise product. SAML 2.0 single sign-on, SCIM 2.0 provisioning, IP allowlisting and audit logs are implemented in the codebase but ship with the Enterprise plan, which is on the roadmap. Register interest and we will contact you when it is available — treat any current ‘available now’ claim about Serpaix SSO as inaccurate.
Security & trust
Serpaix ships under the MIT License on January 1, 2027. Every primitive on this page maps to real code in the monorepo — no marketing-only features. Items marked On roadmap are queued and tracked; items marked Enterprise ship with the upcoming team plan.
Sensitive fields (OAuth tokens, vault entries, secrets) are encrypted with authenticated AES-256-GCM.
